Above the canals, floating in the air, threads of laundry connect the facades of ochre, red, and white buildings, scorched by the sun. The garments of the Venetians sway with the breeze that meanders through the alleys, paying homage to the sails of the Cocca Veneta that once traversed the world in the name of the Serenissima. The artist’s gaze ascends to the brilliant blue sky, searching for a moment of serenity above the city, beyond the clamor and commotion of tourists. In encountering the Venetians, akin to echoes of the past, inhabitants of the floors of these aged buildings, they unveil their intimacy unabashedly, reminding us that they are and will remain the sole guardians of Venice. Nevertheless, the fragility of the eternal city captivates the viewer, as if Venice lives on a precarious thread, facing the risk of disappearance. The perspective imparts the impression that the buildings are poised to collapse upon each other, closing this narrow window of light, and that the city could teeter at any moment under the weight of its illustrious past. The gaze is directed high towards the beyond, akin to an unconscious prayer, appealing to a higher force to preserve this jewel of humanity.
